Julian Makhoul

Hello everyone! My name is Julian and I am extremely excited to be your President of the International Development Studies Students’ Association this year. It is my final year of my undergraduate degree studying Honours Political Science, International Development studies and Canadian Ethnic and Racial Studies at McGill. I have primarily focused my degree on analyzing the relationship between the institutionalization of the state and progress of development within the global south. After serving last year on the IDSSA, I am looking forward to further serving the IDS program by being readily available to assist students and create new opportunities for students to be engaged and connected within the program and beyond. I want to wish you all a successful and productive year and I hope to see some of you soon at one of our events. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have via Facebook or email: president.idssamcgill@gmail.com

Zain Bhanji

VP External

Hey everyone! My name is Zain and I am a third year (U2) student studying Honours International Development and a minor in Islamic Studies. The main focus of my major has been on the Culture and Society aspect of development and my educational experience was enhanced by doing an internship with the Arts Internship Office (AIO), which offered me a position teaching English to university students in Indonesia! As your incoming VP External, I plan on continuing the amazing work done by Mehar by reprsenting all IDS students on the AUS Council and collaborate with outside partners! If you have any questions or ideas that you think should be brought up with the AUS Council, please feel free to shoot me an email whenever!

Lilia Brahimi

VP Internal

Hi everyone! My name is Lilia, and I am currently pursuing a B.ASc. in International Development Studies and cell/molecular Biology (U2). I focus my IDS studies on public health policy and critical development discourse, specifically relating to global health. I am thrilled to be returning to the IDSSA for a second year as your VP Internal! I am hoping that I will have the chance to interact with even more IDS students, to hear about your comments, concerns and suggestions about your program and voice them to the rest of the Executive. This year, I am committed to work alongside my colleagues and fellow students to bring about more valuable academic opportunities and memorable social events this year! As a native francophone, I am also looking forward to help make IDSSA communications to McGill students more bilingual and to increase the inclusion of our francophone students in our events. Finally, I would like to encourage all new IDS students to reach out to me if you would like to ask any questions, or simply if you want to meet up and chat! Feel free to email me at internal.idssamcgill@gmail.com or just add me on Facebook! Cheers!

Raj Birji

VP Academic

Hey all! My name is Raj, and I'm second-year (U2) student studying Joint-Honours Political Science and International Development Studies. Most of my academic career so far has focused on the role of politics in development, which is an interest that was cultivated throughout my time in Kenya, where I was born and raised. As your VP Academic, my hope is to continue aligning aspects of the International Development Studies program to the changing needs of the developing world. This entails offering programs, events and conferences that complement and enhance the material taught in our courses, with the goal of empowering us with more tangible and applicable skills. I also hope to offer some more direction in the IDS program through more accessible access to counseling and career guidance. The IDSSA hopes to guide students through this incredibly multi-faceted and dynamic program, and we look forward to working together with all of you in getting the most out of this program!  If any concerns, suggestions or inquiries pop up, please feel free to contact me at academic.idssamcgill@gmail.com, or shoot me a message on Facebook!
